Playspace Programs Southeast Region Director

Horizons for Homeless Children (HHC) is an independent, non-profit organization exclusively dedicated to serving homeless children and their families.  We are seeking candidates for this position to support the Playspace Programs Southeast Region. The Playspace Programs Southeast Region Director is responsible to manage a number of Playspace Programs by fostering an environment that promotes effective programming, developing productive relationships with shelter staff and providing on-going support to our volunteers, known as Playspace Activity Leaders (PALs).  HHC is actively seeking to increase the cultural diversity of its workforce.  Join our dedicated team and make a real difference!

Overview:
The Playspace Programs Southeast Region Director will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Southeast Region volunteer program and shelter network. He/She will be responsible for supervising the regional office and Programs Coordinator.  The Director reports to the Director of Playspace Programs.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Managing a regional volunteer network
  • Organizing and facilitating outreach and volunteer trainings
  • Recruiting, screening, placing, monitoring, and supporting the volunteers
  • Installing, opening and maintaining Playspaces in regional shelters
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with area family shelters
  • Overseeing all administrative aspects of the regional office and supervising the Regional Coordinator
  • Maintaining our database and submitting periodic reports

Required Skills and Competencies: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, Masters degree preferred
  • Knowledge of early childhood development
  • Three to five years of relevant experience with non-profit or similar organizations that work with underserved groups
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and organizational skills; public speaking experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability in meeting project goals, deadlines and reporting requirements, ability to work flexible hours and work independently
  • Valid Mass driving license and access to a car, familiarity with communities in Southeastern Massachusetts a plus
  • Proficiency in using MS Office applications
