Horizons for Homeless Children's 4th Young Children Without Homes National Conference was held June 15-16 at the Boston Marriott Copley Hotel in Boston. This year the Conference brought together over 400 participants from over 25 states across the country. A variety of workshops were attended over the course of two days and participants also had an opportunity to see HHC's work firsthand during a visit to a Community Children's Center and Playspace in Boston. Speakers included Dr. Ellen Bassuk from the National Center on Family Homelessness, who presented findings from America's Youngest Outcasts: State Report Card on Child Homelessness and Dr. Sherri Killins, Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care, who addressed the group about the importance of early childhood education. Lesley Koplow from Bank Street College also spoke on supporting children's emotional health in the classroom and Professor Kevin Swick on his work with young homeless children and families in South Carolina. Attendees shared their impressions:
- "What a wonderful conference! Thank you for allowing advocates to come together to learn from one another and to share their experiences!"
- "I work with single moms and usually focus so much on the moms. This conference opened my thinking and helped me to start thinking about the kids."
- "It was very interesting to meet professionals from different states and learn more about each one!"
